Why many long distance so am radio at night?

I realized I can get at night I'm 100 kilometers radio stations me, why is that? Not available during the day

I just started looking into online broadcasting, looked over some Live365, loudcity, etc. I was searching the net SWCast and there was a tutorial available that there were quite a few tasks involved and I wonder which provider is the least amount of homework, or is easier to work with?
